National Capability Center for Semiconductors (NCCS)

The National Capability Center for Semiconductors (NCCS) combines the expertise and resources of two world-class Saudi Arabian semiconductor research and fabrication facilities to accelerate growth in the Kingdom’s semiconductor industry:

  • King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Nanofabrication Core Lab
  • King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Cleanroom

This collaboration aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives and Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA) priorities, providing access to researchers to strengthen the Kingdom’s semiconductor ecosystem. By merging world-class research capabilities with national expertise, the NCCS positions Saudi Arabia as a global leader in semiconductor research, development and application for critical sectors, including transportation, energy, communications, and health.

By cultivating a vibrant ecosystem of talent development, collaboration, and innovation, the NCCS creates a pipeline for future leadership in semiconductor technology. This initiative provides seamless access to state-of-the-art facilities and training, empowering researchers, students and industry partners to propel the Kingdom’s semiconductor sector forward.

Becoming a powerhouse of semiconductor expertise

Modern society owes a great deal to semiconductor technology. While these modern technological titans power everything from cars and cell phones to fighter jets and advanced missile systems; the intricate microscopic computer chips that power this technology can be as small as four nanometers—compared to a strand of human hair, which is approximately 80,000 to 100,000 nanometers wide.
